Chakras are the energy centers of the body; they are a part of the esoteric medieval era beliefs about physiology and psychic centers that emerged across East Indian traditions. They are located in the astral body along the spine, starting at the base of the spine and running upwards to the crown of the head. Chakras are the circular vortexes of energy that are placed in seven different points on the spinal column, and all the seven chakras are connected to the various organs and glands within the body.

The belief held that human life simultaneously exists in two parallel dimensions, one “physical body” (sthula sarira) and other “psychological, emotional, mind, non-physical” it is called the “subtle body” (sukshma sarira). This subtle body is energy, while the physical body is mass. The psyche or mind plane corresponds to and interacts with the body plane, and the belief holds that the body and the mind mutually affect each other. The subtle body consists of nadi (energy channels) connected by nodes of psychic energy called chakra. The Chakras are traditionally considered meditation aids, with the goal being to progress from lower chakras to the highest chakra blossoming in the crown of the head. Chakras have the loving responsibility of taking in, incorporating and emanating energy to keep us functioning at optimal levels.

The chakras are thought to vitalize the physical body and to be associated with interactions of a physical, emotional and mental nature. Breathing Deeply, when done with intention, can restore your chakras as well. Each inhales directs energy to your chakra, while each exhale allows awareness to settle into your chakras. This practice can open up your chakras and bring harmonic balance back to your mind, body, and soul. Many experience sensations of moving energy, deep relaxation, feelings of being supported and nurtured, or visions of images and colors. Some experience an emotional release such as tears, or they may develop insight into specific areas of their lives.

As these are all energetic centers of the body that correspond to feelings, one of them may resonate with you right now, while a different one may resonate with you tomorrow. It’s likely that one resonates with you more than any others as a continuous problem, a chakra where you often deal with blocks. Other blockages may pop up every now and then, which is why we’ve created these perfumes unique to each chakra needing work.

The Root Chakra (Muladhara) ~ located at the base of spine, in tailbone area. The root chakra represents our foundation, sitting at the base of the spine it gives us the feeling of being grounded. When the root chakra is open, we feel confident in our ability to withstand challenges and stand on our own two feet. When it’s blocked, we feel threatened, as if we’re standing on unstable ground. A blocked root chakra can manifest as physical issues like arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems, or emotionally through feeling insecure about finances or our basic needs and well-being. When it’s in alignment and open, we will feel grounded and secure, both physically and emotionally. The color associated with it is red, the element is Earth. To assist in letting go, reducing fear and to ground, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of palo santo, oakmoss, ginger, black spruce, guaiacwood, bay leaf and ginger. An excellent Mantra for working with the root chakra is “I can’t grow from an unsteady foundation”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.

The Sacral Chakra ~ located in the lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel. It helps inform how we relate to our emotions and the emotions of others, and governs creativity and sexual energy. Those with a blocked sacral chakra could feel a lack of control in their lives.  It controls our sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure, and sexuality. Issues with this chakra can be seen by having problems with the associated organs, like urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and impotency. Emotionally, this chakra is connected to our feelings of self-worth, and even more specifically, our self-worth around pleasure, sexuality, and creativity. The color associated with it is orange, the element is Water. To assist in warming the spirit, and opening oneself to experiencing pure joy, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of warming cinnamon, merlot, tonka bean, vanilla bean, poplar bud, clove, benzoin and honeysuckle. An excellent Mantra for working with the sacral chakra is “I always honor others but not before myself.”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.

The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) ~ located in the upper abdomen in the stomach area. It controls self-worth, self-confidence, and self-esteem, speaking to your ability to be confident and in control of your life. When we experience butterflies or feel a pit in the stomach, that’s the Manipura chakra at work. If your solar plexus chakra is blocked, you might feel overwhelming amounts of shame and self-doubt. Those with open sacral chakras are free to express their true selves. Blockages in the third chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion. It’s the chakra of our personal power, making it related to our self-esteem and self-confidence. The color associated with it is yellow, the element is Fire. To assist in confidence building and shielding negative energies, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of lemon, vetiver, juniper, fennel and lemongrass. An excellent Mantra for working with the solar plexus chakra is “Self-love starts when I accept all parts of myself.”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.

The Heart Chakra (Anahata) ~ located at the center of chest, just above the heart. The bridge between the lower chakras (associated with materiality) and the upper chakras (associated with spirituality). As the name suggests, this chakra can influence our ability to give and receive love—from others and ourselves. Someone with a blocked heart chakra will have difficulty fully opening up to the people in their life. If someone’s heart is open, they can experience deep compassion and empathy. Blocks in our heart chakra can manifest in our physical health through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues. But blocks are often seen even more clearly through people’s actions. People with heart chakra blocks often put others first, to their own detriment. It’s the middle of the seven chakras, so it bridges the gap between our upper and lower chakras, and it also represents our ability to love and connect to others. When out of alignment, it can make us feel lonely, insecure, and isolated. The color associated with it is green, the element is Air. To assist in reducing sorrow, enabling one to radiate love, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of jasmine, red rose, ylang ylang, bergamot and melissa leaf. An excellent Mantra for working with the heart chakra is “When I love myself, loving others comes easily.”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.

The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) ~ gives voice to the heart chakra and controls our ability to communicate our personal power. It controls communication, self-expression, and truth. When it’s functioning at full capacity, it allows us to express ourselves truly and clearly. Someone with a blocked throat chakra will feel like they have trouble finding the words to say how they truly feel. This chakra is connected to our ability to communicate verbally. Voice and throat problems as well as any problems with everything surrounding that area, such as the teeth, gums, and mouth, can indicate a blockage. Blocks or misalignment can also be seen through dominating conversations, gossiping, speaking without thinking, and having trouble speaking your mind. When in alignment, you will speak and listen with compassion and feel confident when you speak because you know you are being true to yourself with your words. The color associated with it is light blue/turquoise, the element is sound/music. To assist in communication and speaking ones truth, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of blue tansy, blue chamomile, cypress, rosemary, peppermint, lime, juniper berry, coriander and geranium. An excellent Mantra for working with the throat chakra is “I speak my truth, always.”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.

The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) ~ located on the forehead between the eyes (also called the Brow Chakra) . This chakra controls intuition, imagination, and wisdom; our ability to see the big picture and embrace our natural intuitive side. Considered the eye of the soul, it registers information beyond the surface level. Visions and intuitive hits are not uncommon for someone with an open third-eye chakra. Since this chakra is physically located on the head, blockages can manifest as headaches, issues with sight or concentration, and hearing problems. People who have trouble listening to reality (who seem to “know it all”) or who are not in touch with their intuition may also have a block. When open and in alignment, it’s thought that people will follow their intuition and be able to see the big picture. The color associated with it is indigo, the element is light. To assist in clarifying vision and stimulating ones natural intuition, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of ancient red cedar, clary sage, holy basil and marjoram. An excellent Mantra for working with the third eye chakra is “I am open to exploring what cannot be seen.”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process

The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) ~ the highest chakra, as it sits at the crown of the head and represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. When you fully open your crown chakra, you’re able to access a higher consciousness. it controls inner and outer beauty, spiritual connection. The crown chakra is linked to every other chakra (and therefore every organ in this system), and so it affects not just all of those organs, but also our brain and nervous system. It is considered the chakra of enlightenment and represents our connection to our life’s purpose and spirituality. Those with a blocked crown chakra may seem narrow-minded, skeptical, or stubborn. When this chakra is open, it is thought to help keep all the other chakras open and to bring the person bliss and enlightenment. The color associated with it is violet, the element is light. To assist in bringing clarity & understanding to the mind, body and spirit, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of wildcrafted French lavender and olibanum resin. Excellent Mantras for working with the crown eye chakra are “I know my own spiritual truth and I live in accordance with it.” or “I am constantly connected to my highest self.”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.
