Petrichor: the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word was coined from Greek Petros, meaning “stone”, and ichor, meaning “the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods”.

Step outside following a storm after a dry spell and it invariably hits you: the sweet, fresh, powerfully evocative smell of fresh rain.
