Poplar Bud Salve

One of the beautiful old remedies of the northern woods, poplar bud salve has been made for generations from the sticky, wonderfully fragrant spring buds of Populus species, traditionally known as Balm of Gilead.

Rich in aromatic resins, poplar buds have a long history in folk herbalism for sore muscles and joints, inflammation, minor aches and pains, dry or irritated skin, small scrapes and weather worn hands.

Our buds are gathered locally in spring, when they are swollen with their fragrant resin, then slowly macerated and infused in olive oil for a full year. The finished oil is warmed with dark beeswax from our local apiary to make a simple, deeply aromatic woodland salve.

Its natural scent is extraordinary. Sweet, resinous, green and balsamic, with no essential oils or added fragrance.

Massage into sore muscles and joints or apply to dry, rough or irritated skin as needed.

Made only once each year in small seasonal batches.
