Chakras are the energy centers of the body; they are a part of the esoteric medieval era beliefs about physiology and psychic centers that emerged across East Indian traditions. They are located in the astral body along the spine, starting at the base of the spine and running upwards to the crown of the head. Chakras are the circular vortexes of energy that are placed in seven different points on the spinal column, and all the seven chakras are connected to the various organs and glands within the body.
The belief held that human life simultaneously exists in two parallel dimensions, one “physical body” (sthula sarira) and other “psychological, emotional, mind, non-physical” it is called the “subtle body” (sukshma sarira). This subtle body is energy, while the physical body is mass. The psyche or mind plane corresponds to and interacts with the body plane, and the belief holds that the body and the mind mutually affect each other. The subtle body consists of nadi (energy channels) connected by nodes of psychic energy called chakra. The Chakras are traditionally considered meditation aids, with the goal being to progress from lower chakras to the highest chakra blossoming in the crown of the head. Chakras have the loving responsibility of taking in, incorporating and emanating energy to keep us functioning at optimal levels.
The chakras are thought to vitalize the physical body and to be associated with interactions of a physical, emotional and mental nature. Breathing Deeply, when done with intention, can restore your chakras as well. Each inhales directs energy to your chakra, while each exhale allows awareness to settle into your chakras. This practice can open up your chakras and bring harmonic balance back to your mind, body, and soul. Many experience sensations of moving energy, deep relaxation, feelings of being supported and nurtured, or visions of images and colors. Some experience an emotional release such as tears, or they may develop insight into specific areas of their lives.
The Root Chakra (Muladhara) is located at the base of spine, in tailbone area. The root chakra represents our foundation, sitting at the base of the spine it gives us the feeling of being grounded. When the root chakra is open, we feel confident in our ability to withstand challenges and stand on our own two feet. When it’s blocked, we feel threatened, as if we’re standing on unstable ground. A blocked root chakra can manifest as physical issues like arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems, or emotionally through feeling insecure about finances or our basic needs and well-being. When it’s in alignment and open, we will feel grounded and secure, both physically and emotionally. The color associated with it is red, the element is Earth and the crystal is smokey quartz.
To assist in letting go, reducing fear and to ground, this blend has been slowly infused with healing plant allies of palo santo, oakmoss, ginger, black spruce, guaiacwood, bay leaf and ginger. Each bottle contains smokey quartz crystal to amplify its benefits. Shake bottle well and mist onto the lower back and bottoms of feet as needed. An excellent Mantra for working with the root chakra is “I can’t grow from an unsteady foundation”; some folks find it helpful to close their eyes and repeat these affirming words out-loud as a part of the healing process.
As these are all energetic centers of the body that correspond to feelings, one of them may resonate with you right now, while a different one may resonate with you tomorrow. It’s likely that one resonates with you more than any others as a continuous problem, a chakra where you often deal with blocks. Other blockages may pop up every now and then, which is why we’ve created these mists unique to each chakra needing work.
