Pitcher Plant & Green Aventurine Essence ~ Bog Witch: Flower essences are a homeopathic remedy that have been used for years to help create mind-body-spirit balance. Unlike flowers, which are infused in the daytime sunlight, carnivorous plant essences are created by the light of the Full Moon. Rainwater is slowly poured over the plant and it’s left to bathe in the moon, infusing the water with only the spirit (“essence”) of the plant. Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia purpurea) is known in many areas as “Bog Witch” plant, and grows in remote swampy areas throughout Alberta and many other areas of the world.  The carnivorous pitcher plant thrives in bogs and feeds on insects that drop unsuspectingly into its ‘cups’ of liquid when they lean too close to drink. These plants emit fragrance, luring insects and other tiny animals into the trap. If these animals do not immediately drown in the fluid, they are prevented from escaping by various means. Pitcher plants are found in four major families, but most are in Nepenthaceae and Sarraceniaceae. The word Nepenthes comes from Greek mythology and literally means “without grief,” referring to Homer’s Odyssey, in which Helen was given the Nepenthe drug in order to make her sorrows go away. Pitcher plant essence is indicated for those seeking transformation of instinctual powers into what is truly human, contributing to being in the world with courage and strength. For those experiencing fear of or disconnect from the instinctual forces of the self, listlessness or anemia and disassociation from or fearful of the instinctual aspects of the Self. Unlike essential oils or herbal extracts that contain the physical substances extracted from plants, there is no physical part of the flower left in a flower essence. Instead they work on similar principles to Homeopathy, in which the life-force and vibrational signature of the plant is imprinted within a water-based matrix. This is achieved through sun-steeping the flowers in water for a period of time. The water is then collected, strained and potentised through dilution methods. Add 1-3 drops of the flower essence to a drink or directly to the mouth. It can also be added to bath water, applied directly to the hands, anointed onto self and candles for spiritual work.
