Madder (Rubia tinctorum) ~ Used since ancient times as a dyeplant, the roots contain Alizarin, which produces a brilliant and stable red color. Also known to treat edema & jaundice. This perennial is moderately easy to germinate. Roots may be dug after the 2nd year, when yellow flowers appear. Sow in the early spring or fall.

Indigo (Indigofera tinctoria) ~ Used since ancient times as a dyeplant, Indican is extracted from the leaves, producing a brilliant blue color. Also known for it’s antibacterial & antioxidant effects. This annual is moderately easy to germinate. Sow in the late spring.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) ~ Flowers & stalks are used to make yellow dye. Medicinally used for cold/fever, and all skin conditions, & general wellness tea. Used magically for protection & love. This perennial is easy to germinate. Sow in the spring/late summer/early fall.

Dyer’s Chamomile (Anthemis tinctoria) ~ Flowers have been used for thousands of years as a golden yellow dye. Medicinally used for it’s calming effects. Used magically for purification & love. This perennial is easy to germinate. Sow in the late spring and summer.
