Lavender is a plant that needs no introduction. Lavandula angustifolia is what most people in the herbal, perfumery & aromatherapy industry refer to as “true” lavender. Its common names include lavender, true lavender or English lavender, garden lavender, common lavender, and narrow-leaved lavender. A top note of distinct fresh well-rounded Lavender with a slightly sweet mellow scent, this is the most potent & sought after of lavenders.
Lavender has a long history of being used since ancient times; its name originates from the Latin lavare, ‘to wash’, as the Romans added lavender to their bathwater. Differences in soil, altitude and temperature, precipitation and seasons contribute to subtle changes in the scent from one lot of Lavender to another. Created with our organic, pure essential oil, distilled on the Canadian West Coast by a small family owned farm. The very same lavender used in our Serene line & perfumes.
It is probably the most soothing scent a person can ever experience. Lavender works as an anxiolytic (an anxiety reliever) and as a sedative, to increase relaxation and calm, and help bring about sleep. Lavender interacts with the neurotransmitter GABA to help quiet the brain and nervous system activity, reducing agitation, anger, aggression, and restlessness. This is the very same essential oil we use in our entire Serene product line, which you can find in our “Mind” section.
Lavender flowers are known to represent purity, silence, devotion serenity, grace and calmness. In addition to the flower’s significance, its purple color also comes with great symbolism. Purple is the color of royalty and speaks of elegance, refinement and luxury.
Whether your lips are dry, chapped, or just need some extra TLC, The primary benefit of coconut oil is its moisturizing effects. This makes it ideal for chapped lips. Your lips are particularly sensitive to moisture loss because the skin is thin, and they’re exposed to the elements more so than other parts of your skin. In alternative medicine, coconut oil is a mainstay in burn treatment. This is due to its moisture, as well as its analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. These same effects can translate to benefits for chapped, cracked lips.
Coconut oil is also considered an emollient. Emollients are non-cosmetic moisturizers that help keep the skin moist, and they’re primarily used to protect the skin. They trap moisture in your skin, so these tend to work best immediately after bathing. However, you can apply them throughout the day as needed, especially when considering your lips, which lose moisture more rapidly than the rest of the body. Other benefits include the potential disinfecting and antimicrobial effects of coconut oil. Such benefits may keep your lips germ-free, and subsequently help protect any cracked skin from becoming infected too. Furthermore, coconut oil is an anti-inflammatory. This means it may reduce swelling. Some people use coconut oil as a wrinkle treatment. When you use the oil for your lips, you may help your surrounding skin look smoother and more radiant.
