Deep blue, wonderfully tart and extraordinarily rich in colour, haskap has been treasured across northern regions for generations. Known as the “fruit of longevity” in Japan, this little berry is now beautifully at home in the Canadian landscape.
Haskap berries are naturally rich in anthocyanins, polyphenols and vitamin C, the compounds responsible for their remarkable deep blue colour and much of their antioxidant activity.
Traditionally enjoyed as a nourishing tonic, haskap is valued for cardiovascular and circulatory health, immune support and general vitality. Its antioxidant rich berries are also of particular interest for supporting healthy aging, the eyes, brain and skin.
Canada has become an important home for haskap, with varieties such as Aurora, Borealis and Honeybee developed through the University of Saskatchewan’s fruit breeding program.
